Journey to Night Mountain

About

A young woman emerges from a sheltered life at an orphanage in the year 2525. The world is much changed from the one we know today. It’s been 425 years since all motorized travel was banned worldwide in a last ditch effort to save the planet. Travel is by dog cart, horse, pedal cart or bicycle. The trigger for the green revolution came, not from human ideals, but from the simultaneous eruption of black mountains all over the world that have the magnetic power to destroy all electronics. In the ensuing centuries the earth greened again. Animals, birds and other living things began to speak up in the silence. This is the world in which Carmen Miranda finds Herself.

You recognized that name, didn’t you? That’s part of Carmen’s problem. Her name and identity are so wrapped up in that well-known name she’s not sure who she is. She’s in search of Herself. And on her journey she talks to Herself. Not the way you and I do, expecting and getting no reply. She gets a reply and most often wishes she didn’t.

She falls in with a group of amazing people who possess intriguing abilities. Curiously, she finds she too just might harbor an ability she never knew about. She meets other creatures seemingly straight out of a fairy tale but Carmen has no frame of reference for fairy tale creatures. She takes everything quite, quite literally and they return the favour. Her quest for Herself takes her deep into the land bordering one of the mysterious and dangerous Night Mountains. Her new found friends, a curious collection of other living creatures, and Carmen Herself find they’re up against the Night Mountain as it’s forays into the countryside become more frequent and much more deadly. Imagine a massive mountain of deepest black with such magnetic force it can…ahh but that would be giving away a secret.

So, armed with her new name, a handful of Heart stones, and an affinity that gives her surprising power, she takes on the mighty Night Mountain in a final epic battle.

In Journey to Night Mountain you will encounter a delightful tale of self-discovery; a fantasy story in the tradition of Alice in Wonderland; a frolic through cultural references that will resonate with anyone who remembers the golden era of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s; and a touching story of friendship all wrapped up in the strange world of a future that we can only wish could come true.
